Birth/Postpartum Doula Certification

Ubuntu Birth & Postpartum Doula Training Program

“When a woman is supported, a lineage is healed.”

The Ubuntu Doula Training Program is a sacred and comprehensive certification course that prepares women to serve families through the full spectrum of childbirth and early motherhood. Rooted in both evidence-based education and ancestral wisdom, this program blends modern doula techniques with holistic care traditions that honor the body, spirit, and community.

Students learn to provide emotional, physical, and spiritual support during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period — including comfort measures, advocacy, lactation basics, newborn care, and traditional postpartum healing. You’ll also explore herbal medicine, energy work, and cultural rituals that nurture mothers and babies alike.

Whether you’re new to birthwork or expanding your healing practice, this training empowers you to serve as a grounded, compassionate, and culturally aware caregiver — one who holds space not just for birth, but for transformation.

Ubuntu means “I am because we are.” This program is more than a class — it’s a calling to serve, to uplift, and to heal through the sacred art of woman-to-woman care.

What Is a Birth Doula?

A birth doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to expectant mothers and their families before, during, and immediately after childbirth. The doula’s role is to create a calm, empowering, and informed birth experience—whether at home, in a hospital, or at a birthing center.

Birth doulas may assist with:

  • Attending prenatal appointments to offer support and advocacy

  • Providing resources and guidance to help answer pregnancy-related questions

  • Helping create a personalized birth plan that reflects your values and preferences

  • Offering continuous emotional reassurance and physical comfort during labor

  • Teaching partners how to provide effective and compassionate support

  • Supporting mothers through labor and birth in all settings—home, hospital, or birth center

With additional training, a doula may also offer:

  • Prenatal Massage for relaxation and body awareness

  • Nutritional Counseling to promote healthy pregnancy and postpartum recovery

  • Herbal Support to nurture the body naturally through every stage

  • Childbirth Education to prepare families for labor and delivery

  • Lactation Counseling to assist with early breastfeeding success

What Is a Postpartum Doula?

A postpartum doula provides compassionate, hands-on support to mothers and families during the tender weeks following birth. The role of a postpartum doula is to nurture the mother as she recovers physically, emotionally, and spiritually—helping to create a peaceful and balanced transition into parenthood.

Postpartum doulas may assist with:

  • Light household tasks such as cooking and tidying to promote rest and recovery

  • Caring for older children while the mother tends to her newborn or herself

  • Offering breastfeeding guidance, education, and emotional reassurance

  • Providing infant care support so mothers can rest and restore their strength

With additional training, a postpartum doula may also offer:

  • Postnatal Massage to encourage healing and relaxation

  • Nutritional Counseling for nourishment and energy restoration

  • Herbal Remedies to support recovery and balance hormones

  • Postnatal Vaginal Steaming for gentle womb healing and rejuvenation

  • Lactation Support and Counseling for continued breastfeeding success

Research has demonstrated that having a doula can lower the likelihood of medical interventions, such as cesareans or forceps deliveries. This support can provide you with confidence and peace of mind during your birthing experience. Additionally, doulas can assist with postpartum healing by offering valuable information and emotional support.
